Joe Wilkinson is a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives. He is a fifth generation Atlantan who graduated from the University of Georgia. After college, Wilkinson went to Washington to serve Presidents Ford and Reagan as a member of the White House Press Office. Wilkinson was also a member of the United States Naval Reserve, ultimately receiving the rank of Captain. He is a veteran of Desert Storm. Wilkinson represented District 52 in the Georgia Legislature from 2001 to 2017 and retired after 16 years of service. While in the House, Wilkinson worked on funding in the arts in Georgia and was a member of the House Ethics Committee. Wilkinson is currently the President of Fun Academy Studios. The Joe B. Wilkinson Papers primarily include those from Representative Wilkinson's time in office. This includes information for bills Wilkinson worked on, like Georgia Arts Funding and Adoptable dogs in Georgia. The collection also includes constituent information and information on the corporation of the city of Sandy Springs. The majority of the collection consists of physical files, but also includes seven panoramic photographs of the Georgia legislature from years 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015.

This collection consists of records documenting the history of litigation over property ownership and development on St. Simons Island, Georgia between 1967 and 2005. Court cases included in the collection are Cherry and Mobley v. Hopkins, Coast House v. Cherry and Rolleston / Cherry v. Rolleston, Hamby v. Hopkins, Wiedmeyer v. Hopkins, and Hopkins v. Curry. Records in the collection include legal documents such as briefs, transcripts, contracts, and exhibit materials; notes; correspondence; newspaper clippings; land and tax records; plats; maps; drawings; photographs; and audiovisual recordings.

The Georgia Environmental Oral History Project was started in 2013 via a partnership between the Russell Library and Betsy Bean. The project documents the forces that have shaped and are currently shaping the Georgia landscape, including such topics as environmental activism (with a focus on grassroots activism), legislation related to environmental issues, the environmental history of the Georgia coast, the interplay between conservation, industry, and tourism, the politics of "sustainability," and the relationship between environmental issues and public safety. Early interviews focus on Brunswick and Glynn County including numerous Superfund sites, the development issues surrounding St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, and the challenges of protecting coastal marshlands.
